Learn about the Brasilian dances
SAMBA
Samba is a Brazilian dance and musical genre originating in Bahia, Brazil, and with its roots in Rio de Janeiro and Africa via the West African slave trade and African religious traditions. It is recognized around the world as a symbol of Brazil and the Brazilian Carnival. Considered one of the most popular Brazilian cultural expressions, samba has become an icon of Brazilian national identity.
BOSSA NOVA
Bossa nova is a well-known style of Brazilian music developed and popularized in the 1950s and 1960s. The phrase bossa nova means literally "new trend„. A lyrica fusion of samba and jazz, bossa nova acquired a large following in the 1960s initially among young musicians and college students. Since its birth, it has remained a vital part of the standard jazz repertoire. Bossa Nova is a movement of Brazilian popular music.
GAFIEIRA
Gafieira - the show is one of the mixes that came out of the samba, but unlike this popular event, the gafieira has a code of ethics, which dominates the elegance and respect. The choreography gafieira show is based on ballroom dancing, but a little less regimented, since it has the springiness and trickery of samba from the beginning of the last century (samba gaff).
FORRÓ
Forró is the most popular genre of music and dance in Brazil's Northeast, to the extent that historically "going to the Forró" meant simply going to party or going out. The dance however becomes very different as you cross the borders of the Northeast into the Southeast. As part of the popular culture it is in constant change. The dance known as college forró is the most common style between the middle-class students of colleges and universities in the Southeast, having influences of other dances like salsa and samba-rock.
